"My
vision for the ATP is that the organization will provide a venue for its
members to collaborate, network, and develop as professionals so that we
improve the quality of academic support that our institutions provide." |
My master’s degree is
in English, and I became Director of the Academic Support Center at
Morrisville State College in January 2003. Before that, I was a full-time
professor who taught composition and literature classes for five years (and
part-time for a number of years before that). I had also worked as a
professional tutor in a learning center for students with disabilities and
in a Student Support Services program. I am responsible for our
peer-tutoring program, which is certified at Levels 1 and 2 by the CRLA. I
hire, train, and supervise a cohort of 50 or so tutors each year in addition
to serving as the supervisor of the three other professional staff in our
center (Math Specialist, Writing Specialist, and Coordinator of Services for
Students with Disabilities). Beginning this semester, I am also serving as
the supervisor of the SI Leaders in a grant-funded Supplemental Instruction
pilot program. When I have time, I like to work with students who come to
our center for help with their academic and professional writing.
