I have been a tutor and tutor administrator since 1979, when I was hired as a Master Tutor at William Paterson College to fulfill my graduate assistant responsibilities. After a week on the job, I was hooked and knew that my life work would involve being an educator and a tutor. Since then, I have taught courses across the curriculum at five colleges in four states, and I have been the director of two tutorial programs. Over that same twenty-three year span, I have served as the Conference and Program Chair for two national conferences and President-Elect of a nationwide tutorial association. I am also a member of the Michigan Tutorial Association. I have presented a number of workshops and seminars on tutoring, tutor training, learning styles and developing comprehensive tutorial programs, nationally and locally. As interim President of the Association for the Tutoring Profession, I believe that it is essential to bring new ideas to tutors at all levels of the profession–from students who are just beginning to professionals and administrators who have been involved for years. I see the ATP as a clearing-house of ideas governed by and guided in principle and in action by all of the members of the association. I am happy to be associated with other individuals who over the years have proven their expertise in tutoring and have been actively engaged in bettering the profession. I believe we can make a difference and can help each other to develop an association of which all members can be proud. |
