Position Description

The Assistant Director will have responsibility for the coordination and oversight of programming and a range of services in the Learning Center, including teaching sections of developmental courses, advising CAP (College Achievement Program) students, and supervising Learning Assistants

Duties

  • Teach sections of developmental math as needed.
  • Teach Freshman Seminar for developmental students as needed.
  • Knowledgeable regarding best practices in peer services, disability services, developmental education and learning center supervision.
  • Schedule and proctor placement testing for incoming students. Maintain records of students placed in the College Achievement Program for developmental learners.
  • Serve as freshman advisor to CAP students.
  • Recruit, select, supervise, train, and coordinate the Learning Assistants in general access hours in the Center for maximum student use.
  • Document and certify learning disabilities of students, and act as an advocate for accommodations and services to these students.
  • Work with the Director in developing programs and services as needed to assist and serve the developmental and general academic support needs of the campus.
  • Recruit, hire, and train for the Tutor Bank for peer, community, and study group tutors. Coordinate all tutor services.
  • Maintain records and payroll for student workers in the Center.
  • Maintain information on the CAS website, publications, and forms.

Required Qualifications

The Director of College Academic Support Services develops, maintains, and coordinates college-wide academic skills assessment and support programs, in collaboration with deans, faculty and local academic support services professionals. The director reports to the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs for Academic Services and provides leadership for the college in continuously developing and improving its academic support for student learning.

This position plays a key role in the college’s Front Porch project, which offers comprehensive academic support for the college’s adult learners from the point of entry to the end of the second enrollment. Mount Mary is currently seeking an individual to contribute to the realization of our mission through the role of Coordinator of the Academic Resource Center. The Coordinator reports directly to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and has the following primary responsibilities: administrative oversight of the Academic Resource Center, collaboration with faculty to strengthen academic support services, tutoring of students, presentation of workshops and resources relating to student academic success, maintenance of a record-keeping system, and participation in the College Achievement Program, Orientation and other Academic Affairs and Student Affairs programs.

Principal Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Hire, supervise, train, evaluate and schedule professional tutor staff tutor students in various disciplines as needed.
  • Assess services offered by the ARC through collection and analysis of relevant data.
  • Collaborate with Coordinator of Disability Services to help students utilize testing accommodations, academic assistance, and technological resources appropriate to their ADA specified accommodations.
  • Schedule classroom visits to share information about ARC services, study groups and academic and study skills topics as requested by faculty.

  • Monitor use of technology resources within the ARC and assist student making use of this technology; update technology as needed and as budget provides.

Qualifications: Master's degree preferred; experience working with students in a learning center environment preferred; experience with college teaching and developing new programs with faculty and in cooperation with professional academic and student affairs staff and administrative and supervising experience; familiarity with developing and managing budgets.

Located between Memphis and Nashville in western Tennessee, JSCC has committed its resources to improving the writing skills of our students and to using writing as a learning tool. The directorship is a 12-month faculty position.

Duties:

  • The Director will be responsible for establishing and overseeing the daily activities of a Writing Center and WAC programs
  • Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate tutors
  • Maintain the Center’s webpage and distance-learning technology

Position Description:

The Coordinator for Tutoring oversees a large tutoring program and works collaboratively with the Director in providing leadership and coordination for Tutoring and other ASC programs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Design and coordinate training/supervision/administrative activities of the tutoring program
  • Develop and update program policies, goals and objectives
  • Responsible for the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of undergraduate students for Tutor positions and graduate students for support supervisory role.
  • Design and keep current the Tutor training materials, learning/study skills handouts, and tutoring forms
  • Prepare and lead Tutor training for one day immediately preceding classes each semester, and continue training through teaching ED 110, Introduction to Tutoring , a one credit course required of all tutors; develop and deliver workshops each semester, regular tutor meetings, and individual sessions with student employees
  • Responsible for on-going tutor training in terms of regular training meetings, observations of tutoring sessions, and feedback to tutors on performance
  • Coordinate facilities for tutor training and tutoring sessions
  • Communicate with faculty concerning the implementation and effectiveness of tutoring in their courses
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director for the ASC and the data analyst to provide records and reports on activities and effectiveness of the program
  • Assist with teaching academic skills courses, workshops, summer orientation program and outreach programs as assigned by the Director of the ASC
  • Serve as a campus and community resource person for special events and projects of the Academic Success Center

Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience with a tutoring program in higher education
